Ask God not Google

Ask God Not Google

Google is a excellent resource but if you are looking for answers with eternal consequences, ask God not Google.  In James 1:5 it says “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”  “Wise people do not rely on the internet to diagnose and treat emotional, mental, and physical health challenges especially life threatening challenges. Instead they seek out health experts, those trained and licensed by recognized medical and state boards. Even then, prudent people seek out a second opinion” – Elder Ballard  By Study and by faith” If that is sensible then it makes sense to Ask God for anything and everything we stand in need of.  That is one of the reasons I am loving this theme our youth have this year.  If you have a question, ask the expert the One who knows everything, ask God.

At youth conference our youth divided up into different groups and one of the sessions  was “So, how does he answer you?”  which seems to be one of the most asked questions coming to us.  the youth were asked if they ever get homesick? what do they do when they do? the answers rang from texting/calling home, surrounding themselves with things from home etc.  We discussed how prayer is that communication (call/text) home to our Heavenly Father. Julie B. Beck said “The ability to qualify  for, receive, and act on personal revelation is the single most important skill that can be acquired in this life”- We talked about how the Spirit communicates- President Thomas S. Monson said “We watch. We wait. We listen for that still, small voice.  When it speaks, wise men and women obey.” The youth were asked if they have felt or heard the spirit and they shared examples of ways they have heard/ felt the spirit.  One leader had mentioned “learning the language of the spirit is like learning a foreign language.”  Elder Richard G. Scott said “If you feel that God has not answered your prayers, ponder these scriptures D&C 6:14-15- then carefully look for evidence in your own life that He may have already answered you”.  Testify that their prayers are always answered, some prayers are not answered immediately some take time & some are not what we want to hear.  We talked about the language of the Spirit with each word broken down and given examples: 1- Prophecy, 2 Testimony or Testify, 3 Divine Promptings, 4 Restrain, 5 Impel, 6 Inform, 7 Comfort, 8 Uplift and 9 Inspiration.

I really loved this session because it helped answer some questions and also help them to recognize when the spirit has spoken the them.  I know we are going to be touching base with this subject through out the whole year- BUT especially at Girls Camp. I bear my testimony that James 1:5-6 as the theme this year for the youth is inspired, I know that it is imperative that we know how to communicate with our Heavenly Father who so badly wants to pour out his love and blessings to us.

This would be a perfect workshop for Girls Camp 🙂
