Cupcake Wars
We provided oil, eggs etc.
But then they got to choose additional ingredients for their cupcakes. These baking mats are great!
We let them go to it. However they wanted to do it. Some substituted, some added. It was really fun to watch how they thought it out. Wilton 1/2oz certified-kosher Icing colors

We did give them a time limit- saying they had 30 min to have them in the oven. Here are some great products that can help with this activity Decorating kit
Then we got some brave Young Men to come judge. (The girls did not know these young men)

In Order of the awards

D&C 46:11-12
The Lord has said “For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the spirit of God. To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby”
We don’t have all the gifts- nor do we all have the same talents. It is our job to find out what those gifts and talents are. Then utilize them the best way we know how – “that all may be profited thereby”
Each cupcake was beautiful and unique- just like we are.

February 28, 2013 at 7:01 pmWe just did this tonight and it went pretty well. We had 11 girls and the cupcakes were not as cute as yours. We delivered them to the Laurels as a surprise.

February 28, 2013 at 7:08 pmI am glad it went well 🙂 I bet the Laurels loved that! how did they taste? We had a couple girls who loved to watch cupcake wars so they kinda knew what to add and how to use a sandwich bag to decorate. Funny thing, we did not help them at all 🙂

August 18, 2013 at 10:31 pmI'm interested in how long this activity took?? I really want to do it with the YM/YW but I'm afraid it will take forever. We were thinking of premaking the cupcakes in like 3 flavors and letting them choose the frosting additives and decorating them for the competition. It takes a little fun out of the cooking, but it's the only way I can come up with to shorten it.. If you have any ideas I'd love to hear!

January 19, 2015 at 4:10 amI did this as a birthday party for my daughter's 13th birthday with 12 girls. It took 2 hours. I prebaked 4 different flavors of cupcakes (140 cupcakes) and they just decorated. We followed the TV show more closely–we had 4 teams of girls and three elimination rounds. On the last round all the girls from teams that had been eliminated joined the two remaining teams. The first round was judged on flavor and how well the cupcakes portrayed the theme. The second round was judged more on appearance and theme. The final round the girls had to build a stand of some kind (we used boxes they wrapped in paper and decorated) to hold 40 cupcakes their team decorated according to how they had fulfilled the theme. I had outside judges as well. The girls had a great time!
