The Nose Knows

During the lesson “Why do the choices I make matter”
that I taught last month I did this activity

Here is how it went
We started out by talking about the things we have learned about the plan of Salvation,
Was there something new they picked up, or that touched their hearts.

We talked about choices and I asked them how they decide if something is good or bad

We talked about that for a bit and then read
Moroni 7:14-15
“Wherefore, take heed my beloved brethren, that you do not judge that which is evil to be of God, or that which is good and of God to be of the devil.
For behold, my brethren, it is given unto you to judge, that you may know good from evil; and the way to judge is as plain, that you may know with a perfect knowledge, as the daylight is from the dark night.”

So I asked them how do we judge if it be of God or not

Then I pulled out my Tupperware container
I told them they were treats but wanted them to open it and see if they would want it or not.

It went around the room, the girls opened, smelled made a disgusting face and passed it on
I was like “What???”
they said it smelled gross, it smelled bad
I asked how they knew that it was bad
they said they could smell it
they knew it was bad

President Monson said
“Our Heavenly Father did not launch us on our eternal journey without providing the means whereby we could receive from him, God-given guidance to assist in our safe return at the end of our mortal life.  I speak of prayer.  I speak too of the whispering s of the still small voice within each of us”

We talked about how we will always be given a warning, it is our job to heed that warning.

The smelling of the bad lunch meat I had in my Tupperware was a great example of how each of us can detect or judge if something is bad or good.
It really seemed to connect with them.

How has the new curriculum been going in your ward?
I would love to hear how it’s going.
