Silent Christmas Lesson

Every year I am searching the internet, my files now pintrest for a thought provoking spiritual special Christmas lesson.  Quite a few years ago we found (and tweaked for ourselves)a wonderful “Silent Christmas lesson” one that is full of music, scriptures & Video that brings the spirit so very strong.  So I want to share it with you.

Click here to download the Silent Christmas Lesson
The site on Google is new to me so if you have problems email me at:
charisse(dot)harris(at)gmail

Also if you are looking for additional ideas, read through the comments on this page.  There are so many good ideas regarding songs, videos etc.

This is easy to change up with new messages from our current prophet and anything the spirit prompts.

First page is self explanatory
Second page I had changed up a bit from the original- when they finish reading it says to “put this lesson on your lap and” you can have them sing, or listen to the song
Third Page “Baby, what you going to be?” I used the Donny Osmond version
Fourth Page “Watch as we go back in time…” I played the Luke II video with Amy Grants song “Breath of Heaven” The video and music are just about the same time so it just works perfectly- I am almost positive that it is stocked in the ward library called “New Testament Video Presentations”
Here is a link to Deseret Book
Fifth Page song “I have not seen, Yet I believe” is a song written by Sally Deford you can check out her music Here
Sixth Page self explanatory- I Turned on “Silent Night” and had it playing softly for them to turn to page 7.
Seventh Page I added YW leaders because I have done this twice with different young women- they loved it.  I have done this as a Sunday school teacher and also in Family Home evening.

I love this lesson and I love how it can be changed and tweaked for who ever you are giving it to.  I love my Savior and I love the opportunity to honor, worship and reflect on his goodness.

on page 6, it mentions that when the music starts they can turn to page 7…did you just turn on a Christmas hymn in the background? like Silent Night or such? I LOVE this idea! Thank you for sharing. I am giving the Christmas lesson and wanted something new yet powerful, thank you!

I love this idea so much and even just skimming through it could tell it would be a powerful reminder of the importance of Christmas. I'm a little confused on p4 though, where can I find that video?

Thanks so much for sharing! I'm so excited about this!

Thank you so much, it can be found in "New Testament video presentations" and you select Luke 2. Here is the link

Thank you for such a beautiful lesson! Our girls are going to love it. One question, I went to the Sally Deford site for song 5 and clicked download but it didn't actually download it. I have looked for the song on itunes with no luck. Any suggestions for me? Thank you again!

All you do is explain in the beginning what they need to do- then watch to see when everyone has put down their pencils :)it's great because is is silent for the whole class time.

try it again- I know its an mp3 but I believe, after you download it, it will show in the bottom left corner- have your ipod music open and drag it up- I am not sure exactly- you can always substitute it, or skip that part. I hope this helps- I am sorry, I will keep thinking of another song.

Two questions: 1. How long does the entire lesson take? 2. Did you have a problem with some girls reading very quickly and others reading very slowly? I know that will be the case with my group.

  22. Charisse

    December 7, 2012 at 7:14 pm

You will have time for Opening prayer, theme, I put the announcements on a handout just in case. It will take all of class, but plenty of time not to rush 🙂 Yes that is always the case with reading, but it just gives the quick readers more time to ponder 🙂

  41. Mandy Farris

    December 23, 2012 at 6:20 pm

I downlowded the Sally DeFord song from iTunes just yesterday…sung by Haylee Moore. "I have not seen, yet I believe". The album is "He knows my name"

  42. Charisse

    December 23, 2012 at 6:24 pm

No- it is saying if Jesus did not do what he did- the atonement, the resurrection etc- then there would be no Christmas- we would not celebrate his birth if he was not the Savior- does that make sense?- I totally see what you are saying though 🙂

  43. Hendricksonblog

    December 31, 2012 at 3:26 am

Yeah makes total sense. I suppose it works either way but drives the point a little differently. I did this lesson last sunday but used TAylor swifts silent night since shes a fav of the YW and used this angels we have heard on high
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0K17zGHFrKU
its a little rock/country but I'm not very traditional. As long as you don't play it too loud. ha ha
All the adults in the lesson were bawling their poor little eyes out. I also highly recommend the above ideas on music over the nativity and the Donny song.
Thanks so much for all your work and ideas!

  44. Charisse

    December 31, 2012 at 3:32 am

Nice! I am so glad- that is the beauty of this- it can be changed ha ha knowing the girls and what they like and what will get their attention is key in the whole idea 🙂
